Hawkes Bay fires

WALT make connections across several texts
Before reading
Think back to last week’s Hawke’s Bay fires. What do you remember?
Mr M’s example:
I first heard about the fire in the staff meeting. As I left work later that day, something seemed different in the air. As I got home I could smell the fire. It was closer and bigger than I realised. Then I started to hear more and more about it.  I always look at those fire danger signs and now I was reminded how real the danger is.

My connection: (where you were and what you saw or heard about it)
The first thing I knew that there was a fire because I heard sirens which were really really  loud. And then we looked out the car window  and we saw two fire trucks. We followed the fire trucks and then lost them.

First reading
Read the article and discuss the pictures with a buddy. Paste your favourite picture from the article of the fire’s impact below. Describe what the photo shows in your own words.

Thank you letter

                                                                                           To, Sandy
Thank you for helping me get my clothes ready for when we went for bush walks, and helping me butter my toast. Also doing the washing, or we wouldn’t have clean clothes the next day.

I really appreciated you helping us with the amazing race when it took forever to shoot a goal and you gave us advice when we
 didn’t get a goal.
IMG_20170309_113659.jpgOnce again, thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Maths task time

Time
  • I learnt that there are lots of different answers to just one question.
  • Something I found challenging was the last question because I didn’t know how to write it down.
  • I enjoyed finding out different answers to the problem because it was really fun and challenging.
  • I was able to do the task because I got some help from some other people in the hub and when I was sorted so I went into the cave.

Quick Writes-The rainbow Feather cape.

Quick writes
Once there was a little budgie, he was a wild budgie and he lived in birdland in his birdhouse was be a very rich and greedy blackbird and his name was Morris. He was jealous of his dull black feathers and he wanted a different colour. So the budgie went to the house of Morris and told him ‘That you don’t need colourful feathers to look beautiful’, but Morris disagreed and flew off...The next day the little budgie had an idea, so he gathered his friends together and told them. His plan was to get some feathers that have fallen from other birds. So they all collected some feathers and gave them to budgie and he stayed up all night making his gift for blackbird. In the morning his gift was done so he flew to blackbirds and gave him his gift he tried it on and said it was beautiful and told to fly of without even thanking him. The next morning budgie went to blackbirds house and said to him ‘since I gave you your gift you must repay me so it’s even’. The blackbird said “I will not give you a gift even if you gave me one”, this time the budgie didn’t fly away like he normally did he he stood up for himself and said ‘Then when your gift disappears I will not give you a new one’ Morris agreed and budgie flew away. A few months later the budgie never visited blackbird anymore.but budgie asked one of his friends to go and check on blackbird and his gift to see how he was going. When budgie’s friend went to see blackbird he was weeping, he was holding something. Budgie’s friend asked him what was wrong. Blackbird said ‘my gift is broken and I want another one’. Just then budgie’s friend flew away.he reported back to budgie what had just happened. And budgie was proud but pleased that greedy Morris got his share. One day budgie fell ill and was taken away somewhere else and Morris got sad. Other birds thought that budgie was dead. But one day blackbird got some mail. It was from budgie it was the gift it was the same gift budgie gave him before.

It was a rainbow feather cape.

Waka Writing

Waka Writing
I drew a big heart in the middle, with my Family as koru inside.
My Dad is the blue koru, my Mum is the pink koru, I am the red koru, my sister Lily is the purple koru, my other sister Eliana is the gold koru, and lastly my little brother Rico is the green koru.
The sideways K is a karate belt with three tips, because I am on white belt three tips.
I like Cats and they are my second best favourite animal.
Also I drew a bird in a tree because I like birds and I have two pet Budgies a white one called Snow White and a blue Budgie called Blueberry.
Since I love rollerblading so I drew some roller blades on the top left corner.
I did some footprints because I love animals.
My family is originally from China so I drew the Chinese flag with five yellow stars and a red background.
