Matariki flag

It's Maori new year!
So we did a flag of all the things we want to change this year (like a new years resolution). We had to do different sides with different pictures.

Some things I want to change this year:
Rollerblade better
Be a better big sister
Maths
Looking after my Budgie
Piano
Read more
Karate
Eat more fruit
Be happy
And on the other side of my flag...
Learn how to hold a chicken
Do more art
Swim more
Spend more time with Family
Spend more time with Friends
Listen to the Teachers

Learning muscles I need to focus on...
Noticing
Managing distractions
Making Links
Imagining

Marae art

On Monday we did some Marae art. We had to get the template and then draw some Maori designs on them and then we colour them in. Then we cut them out and then we stick them to the paper, then we get seven pieces of tinfoil and then we fold them in half and then we cut them out in a shape of half a star and then you cut it out and then you stick it to the piece of paper and then you have your Marae.

Here are some photos of my art:

Maths

Quick write

In the toy cupboard
It's dark.
I’m a toy rabbit, old and tatty, locked in the toy cupboard. Squashed and squished up in a dark cupboard that nobody ever goes in any more. I used to be loved by a little girl who cared for me, but then I ended up in here and I am going to tell you the story of my life. A little girl used me to travel, I was her travelling toy and we traveled the world trying different foods and speaking different languages. But one day the girl had her 8th birthday and she got lots of lovely teddies and her parents said that they have to throw me out because I was too old for her now, and they threw me away.
A little boy found me and he took me home and I was a sleeping teddy for quite a long time, had I found my forever home?
Then the boy got a very bad virus that he could die from and the nurse said to throw me out because I had a thing called “Bacteria”. They took me to the little charity store down the road and a man pinned a tag to my bent ear saying little bunny $2.
A few days later a teddy bear collector bought me (I don’t think I am a teddy bear) and he took me home and put me in his collection. All squashed up with other teddies doing nothing, just sitting there staring at posters. A few years later the collector died and his family was sorting through his collection and his youngest niece found me. But she didn’t like me she bounced on me like I was a trampoline and she pulled my ears like she was playing tug of war with the strongest man in the world
But the worst thing she did to me was stick bubblegum in my tail and pretended that I can eat ice cream. When she turned 18 she washed me with lovely washing powder and then locked me in the cupboard with all the other toys she threatened in her child years. All I want now is for somebody to love me, or take me to the teddy bear hospital at least.
The end.

Little ocean
I have a little ocean in my brain, it sucks up all the bad memories and the salty tears. My little ocean helps me make decisions for what to do. There are sea animals in my ocean that help me speak the words I have to say. My ocean is calm when I am asleep and is rough when I am angry. Little waves carry starfish to the shore when I am sad. Seagulls eat the fish when I am ungrateful. But happy times bring whales to the surface of the water to breathe. Nobody can see my little ocean not even me, I can not hear my little ocean even when the seagulls are squawking at the tops of their voices. But my little ocean is there, no matter how big or small it is, it's there, no matter who lives there, it's there.

Maths task

We did some cool math tasks where we had to work out a dimensions for a swimming pool and three more tasks. Here is my work sheet and how I worked it out...first I will be showing you my swimming pool sheet and then I will be showing you my other sheets...enjoy!

Parkvale school

The Parkvale pool needs to be drained and refilled because it has become too dirty.

These are the dimensions of the pool:
     12x25=300
                                                               10x25=250
                                                                                                        2x25=50
                                                                                                       300x2=600
  •  How much water in m3 is needed? 12x25x2=600,00
  • How many litres of water is needed?

Extra for Experts:
  • The tap to fill the pool pumps 50,000 litres per hour. How many hours would it take to fill the pool?
  • For each 1000 litres of water, 1 gram of chlorine is needed. How much chlorine needs to go into the pool?
  • Design a different pool in 3D (like above) and work out its volume in m3 and litres. Tip: start with a cube or rectangle

Stage 5&6 Volume

Do your working out in your maths book - show all of your working out.

  • A container has a volume of 96m3. What are all the possible dimensions of this container?

  • A pool has a volume of 180m3. What are all the possible dimensions of this container?

  • A lunchbox has the volume of 280cm3 What are all the possible dimensions of the lunch box?

1x28x10=280cm3
28x10x1=280cm3
10x1x28=280cm3
10x28x1=280cm3
1x10x28=280cm3

The little sheep

The little sheep
Once there was a paddock and in that paddock there lived some goats. One mother goat had three kids and one sheep. Nobody liked sheep because he had no horns like the other goats. So one day he ran away and then he met some cows. The cows told little sheep that he could stay in their paddock, but little sheep refused and kept on strolling on till he met some horses and the and the horses asked were he had came from. The goat paddock, he replied. The horses started teasing him, “Sheep from the goat paddock, sheep from the goat paddock.” as he walked down the path feeling rather sad it was getting darker so he stopped on the side of the road and fell asleep. In the morning when sheep was walking he meet an old ram who told sheep that there was a paddock where lots of sheep grazed on the lush green grass. “Can you come with me and show me?” said the little sheep. “No I am too old to travel a distance that far” said the old ram “safe journeys!” but the little sheep was already off to his destination. Slowly the old ram closed her eyes and laid on her side. The little sheep was skipping down the road, he was excited just a few more steps and he was with his family. Then he saw some lush green grass and five little sheep just like him were playing in the meadow he wanted to play with them but he was too shy so he skipped on and he saw some mother sheep gathered around be a tree. Little sheep squeezed through their legs to see what was going on, a little sheep was being born he was tiny and couldn’t stand up. Was that his brother?  He walked closer and closer and the little newborn sheep looked at him and said his first “Baa!” and little sheep talked back at him.

Homework

Blueberry and Snow White

Blueberry and Snow white
These are my Budgies Snow White and Blueberry they are 7 months old and Blueberry was born on the 20th of August and Snow White was born on the 27th of August 2016.
It was a sunny afternoon and my Aunty and I were going to get my 6th and 7th budgies because the others that I had, had in the past few years have died. We normally get our Budgies from her friend Mike (Michael), he welcomed us with a friendly hello and let us in to tell how the neighbor's cat had let her go. He led us to the aviary and I got to choose from a cage with six birds in it there was three yellow Budgies and green Budgies and two blue Budgies and one white Budgie. I chose the white Budgie and one of the blue Budgies and we carefully put them in a temporary cage that Mike had generously gave to us and we went back inside and sat on the sofa. He asked me what I was going to call them so I replied ‘I will call the Blue Budgie Blueberry because he had a blue spot on his cheek (which was normal) that looked like a blueberry, and I called the white Budgie Snow white because she was all white (she is not an albino). So we took them home after a little snack and placed them in their new cage they wandered around at first because they weren’t used to it and then they clawed up onto a perch and up the ladder and they pecked at some seed which meant they liked it! After a few days they loved it and they wanted to come out for some training so I got out some training tools and trained them to go through a hoop and climb up ladders.

The story of my other birds.
First I had a bird named Tweety Bird she was a yellow Budgie and she had black eyes, as black as a button. She loved her her cage and she didn’t mind being put on somebody's shoulder. But one day she got sick and her eyes turned red like fire and she died the next day.
Second bird was called Gluestick he was yellow and green and he was fast and didn’t like to by taken out of his cage. But one day we put him outside in his cage for fresh air and he broke out of the cage and flew away.
We got another bird called Rocket he was just like Gluestick and he flew away too.
We got a new cage and a new bird, he was called Rio and he died a year later.
We wanted a change so we got a Canary we called her Blossom Polly and she was orange. But then one day at 5.00 am the cat tipped over the cage and she flew away.
Now we have Snow White and Blueberry left, but Blueberry died a few months after.
I hope Snow White doesn't die because my mum said they are going to be my last Birds because she is sick of then dying.

Maori hand games

We did some Maori hand games at school and we understood what people did with no technology, they played hand games and some other col games. We learnt 7 games and I am going to do some videos on what to do. The 7 games were: paki, koruru (knuckle-bones), whai (string), waka/kahu (string games), hei tama tu tama, and hi pitoi toi e.

Here is a video of me doing the whai:

Bully letter

Write a letter for all the teachers at Parkvale School to give to bullies to try to persuade them to stop bullying.

Your letter should:
  • Say why bullying is wrong
  • Give advice to bullies

Write your letter in the box below.
To all the teachers and bullies, at Parkvale school,

Bullying is bad, so people should stop bullying. Bullying isn’t when somebody hurts you for one day, it's where they keep on hurting you.
If you bully people they will feel very sad and then they might start bullying too, so don’t bully other people.
To stop bullying you can tell the bully to “Stop” very loudly or you can say “No” very loudly too. Also if somebody is bullying you, you can also just walk away.
Always remember the golden rule: “Treat other people how you want to be treated”.

From Christina Rimu Hub

Ideas
Tell them what bullying is
How to stop Bullying
Why Bullying is bad
How other people fell to be bullied
Convince people to stop Bullying
